Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a manual therapy that aims to improve overall health by releasing restrictions in the body. It looks at the whole health of the individual and is therefore a truly holistic treatment. It is a drug-free, non-invasive form of physical therapy that helps the body to heal itself. Osteopaths spend four years in full-time higher education and are qualified to diagnose and treat a wide range of health problems such as headache and back, shoulder and neck pain, sciatica, arthritis, tennis/golfer’s elbow and fibromyalgia.
Restrictions to movement can be released using a wide variety of techniques, including fascial release, MET (muscle energy technique), BLT (balance ligamentous tendon) soft tissue techniques as used in massage and cranial osteopathy, which is an extremely gentle treatment (for which further training is required).
Osteopathic treatment is based on the individual needs of the patient and so your treatment with osteopath Jamie Rose will vary depending on your age, fitness and diagnosis. Osteopaths also give health and lifestyle advice and can recommend specific exercises/stretches that will help you recover.
The profession is regulated by the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) and the term osteopath is protected in law. Therefore, if you see someone calling themselves an osteopath, they will be properly qualified to diagnose and treat you. Osteopaths must also provide evidence to GOsC to show that they have completed regular continued training.
