The aims of physiotherapy treatment are to reduce pain, improve movement and function and to help prevent further problems. Physiotherapists help people affected by injury, illness or disability through movement and exercise, manual therapy, education and advice.
Hands-on Health’s physiotherapist Jayne Robinson will first take a detailed history of your condition together with any relevant past medical history. Everything you tell her will be completely confidential.
A physical assessment will then be undertaken to determine the clinical diagnosis of your problem. Jayne will then discuss with you a proposed treatment.
Every opportunity will be given to you to ask questions about your condition and advice regarding its management and prevention in the future.
Physiotherapists do not only treat the problem but, by spending time with you, will often be able to show you how to minimise the impact of your problem and to help prevent it from happening again.
Physiotherapy can provide treatment for
- Back and neck pain
- Ligament strains and sprains
- Muscle and tendon injuries
- Sports injuries, acute and chronic
- Joint pain
- Repetitive strain injury
Physiotherapists use a number of different techniques including manipulation and mobilisation, massage, exercise programmes, and in some cases acupuncture. Reassurance and education about a problem will also give you the confidence to get back to normal activities quickly.
